Healthy Habits with Mari!
Enzymes and Digestion
Hi there! Welcome back and thank you for visiting my blog again! I hope that you were able to add the four healthy habits to your lifestyle. If not, it is never too late! (Read - Healthy Habits with Mari! - Getting into Good Habits!) You can start right now and never have to wait for tomorrow or Monday! Every little bit you do has a positive effect on your body and remember … you are not competing with anyone else but yourself. Do what you can do, and you will reap the benefits in due time!
"After years of trying different things, I would like to share with you what worked for me. No need for you to re-invent the wheel!"
I used to struggle a lot with bad digestion. I would feel bloated all the time and had to lie down after eating a big meal. I tried a lot of products but none of them had any lasting effects. Most of these products had a long list of side effects which I was always skeptical and afraid of. After years of trying different things, I would like to share with you what worked for me. No need for you to re-invent the wheel!
Have you heard about ENZYMES?
Do you know what they are and what their function is? Enzymes act like sparks that initiate or speed up the essential chemical reactions our bodies need to live. Your body produces millions of enzymes every second! They are necessary for providing cellular energy, repairing all tissue, organs, and cells, stimulating the brain, and digesting food. The latter includes the absorption, transportation, and metabolism of nutrients as well as the elimination of waste.
So, I will be correct in saying that the more digestive enzymes I have, the better my digestion will be as these enzymes will help digest my food faster, allow me to absorb the nutrients my body needs from the food better, and assist my colon to get rid of the waste it does not need more effectively!
"If you heal the gut, you heal the body!"
I do not know about you, but I would not mind having a digestive system that always works well! If you heal the gut, you heal the body! No more bloated or heavy feeling as if you swallowed a stone after a meal anymore! Wouldn’t that be great!
How can you get more of those DIGESTIVE ENZYMES in your diet?
Let us have a look at a few simple things we can do to add them and start enjoying better digestion!
#1 - Which foods contain enzymes?
That will be all RAW fruit and vegetables. Every time we cook or microwave our food, we destroy the enzymes in it, and our bodies must work so much harder to digest. Ask yourself before you cook something whether you cannot rather eat it raw.
Ways we can add more raw food to our diet.
Try to eat at least one big raw salad per day with the homemade salad dressing I shared last time. (Read -Getting into Good Habits!) Another way is to cut up all your favourite veggies and dip them in homemade hummus. The bigger the variety of veggies you eat, the more nutrients you get!
- 1 x 400g Chickpeas in brine (I like the organic one from Woolies) – reserve the brine to use if the hummus is too thick
- ¼ cup/65ml extra virgin olive oil
- Juice of one medium lemon
- 1 small garlic clove
- One dessert spoon Tahini (sesame paste)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- One teaspoon cumin
· Blitz everything together in your Nutribullet.
· If it is too thick you can add some of the brine, water, or more olive oil.
· Plate in a shallow bowl, decorate with chopped purple onions, roasted chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, parsley, lemon wedges, and crushed red pepper.
· Enjoy with raw veggies of your choice like carrots, cucumber, red or yellow pepper, celery, etc
Green beans, asparagus, and broccoli can be a bit chewy to eat raw and by giving it a quick blanch it is not exposed to heat for a long time and keep most of its enzymes – crispy to the bite! Then add them to your salad.
How you blanch your veggies quickly so that you do not kill the enzymes!
· Cut the veggies in desired lengths.
· Put them in a container.
· Boil water in your kettle and pour over the veggies.
· Let it stand for three minutes.
· Drain through a sieve or colander and break a try of ice over the veggies to stop the cooking process. You will be left with bright crispy veggies!
#2 - Eat your raw food before you eat your cooked food
Why? Because raw food is loaded with digestive enzymes which helps your stomach and intestines to digest your food! If you eat them first, the enzymes in them speed up the digestive process and help your stomach and intestines to digest the starches and proteins that follow.
#3 - Aim to put more raw food on your plate!
Go for 60% raw and 40% cooked. You will soon realize that you are full and can not eat such a big plate of food anymore – the reason for this is that raw food fuels your cells and when this happens your body stops sending out hunger signals. The bonus? Weight loss, glowing skin, and a healthier you!
#4 - Digestion starts in the mouth
By chewing your food more you allow the saliva glands in your cheeks to secrete more enzymes (called amylase). This is where the digestion process starts. So, set the table nicely, sit down with yourself or loved ones, say Thanks, and take your time to enjoy and really chew your food.
Having struggled with digestive issues I have really enjoyed great results by just adding more raw food to my diet. Sometimes when my day is just too busy to do so, I have two lifesavers that have really made a difference in my life. Both are loaded with raw enzymes and have been yielding results for me for the last 16 years! So great when your supplements work for you!
AIM BarleyLife is an all-natural green barley grass juice powder concentrate that helps provide the daily nutrition you need to develop a strong foundation for your good health. It contains a spectrum of vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, antioxidants, phytonutrients and because it is raw, it is loaded with enzymes!!!
A quick way to put those extra enzymes in your body to assist your digestive system. I enjoy a glass or two per day!

AIM Prepzymes is a real lifesaver and I always have a bottle in my handbag! It is like having loads of enzymes quickly available when your plate has no raw food on it! I pop a Prepzyme or two before I have the off pizza, pasta, toast, or piece of cake and it helps me to digest the food. No more bloated full feeling for me afterward! My hubby loves his meat and used to often struggle with bad digestion and heartburn. I see him diving into the Prepzymes bottle more often now and don’t hear him complaining about those symptoms anymore!

Prepzymes is a digestive health, dietary supplement that provides a combination of enzymes, papaya, and garlic leaf powder – no aftertaste as it contains the leaves and not the bulb of the garlic plant. It allows for more thorough digestion of your food! And with better digestion comes increased energy! Take a look at this short video where I explain to you how Prepzymes goes to work!
I really hope that what I have learned concerning digestion has helped you as well. We are so bombarded with shelves full of supplements and the marketing is sometimes very misleading. I have spent years researching and trying out many different supplements, however for the last 16 years I have stuck to the range of products that the Aim Company has to offer. In my opinion, there is not a cleaner whole food product on the market and the best is that it works! No side effects! I can really recommend it to you with confidence!
If you are interested in ordering these two products I spoke about here, follow this link, https://myaimstore.com/marinel/ to join the company (it’s for free with no obligations), and start your journey in feeling better now!
I trust that you enjoyed learning about the importance of adding more enzymes to your meals and how you can benefit from it. I want to encourage you to try to eat better with each meal you have. Don’t feel bad when you had a bad unhealthy meal – that is the beauty of eating? You can correct it with the next meal or by skipping the next meal! I’m looking forward to our next chat and remember … life begins with enzymes and stops without enzymes.
